National Eating Disorders Awareness Week

National Eating Disorders Awareness Week 2018 is Monday, February 26th through Sunday, March 4th

This week join the National Eating Disorder Association (NEDA) in changing the conversation around food, body image, and eating disorders. According to NEDA, "30 million Americans will struggle with a full-blown eating disorder and millions more will battle food and body image issues that have untold negative impacts on their lives."

Eating disorders are psychiatric and medical illnesses that involve extreme emotions, beliefs, and behaviors surrounding food, weight, and size. Eating disorders are not a choice. They are serious disorders that can be life-threatening. Eating disorders affect people of any age, gender, race, and socio-economic status. It is important to dispel these and other common myths about eating disorders in order to help end stigma and provide acceptance and support to all individuals with eating disorders.

Those who are experiencing these disorders often report feeling shame and trying to hide their eating disorder from others. Let's work to help raise awareness about eating disorders and connect people with the treatment resources that can help them begin their road to recovery. Learn more about eating disorders and National Eating Disorders Awareness Week at http://nedawareness.org
