In honor of Suicide Prevention Awareness Month, I have put together a list of helplines available for people experiencing emotional distress, including lifelines for those in need of crisis intervention. If you or someone you know is experiencing emotional suffering, please review these available resources and call for help today.

 

LOCAL HELPLINES (PHILADELPHIA AREA)

  • Philadelphia Suicide Crisis & Intervention: 215-686-4420
    A 24/7 hotline that connects Philadelphia residents with trained professionals for counseling, guidance, and direction for receiving prompt evaluative and treatment services  

  • Philadelphia Warm-line: 1-855-507-9276 or 267-507-3945
    Available Monday through Friday, 4PM to 7PM - connects anyone experiencing emotional distress, but is not in crisis, with trained Certified Peer Specialists, caring and friendly peers who are sincere and non-judgmental
  • Dial 2-1-1
    Free help accessing health and human services in your community (including childcare, emergency food, or housing services)

NATIONAL HELPLINES

  • National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-TALK (8255)
    A national 24/7 phone service that provides free and confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress. For the deaf or hard of hearing: 1-800-799-4889

  • Veterans Crisis Line: 1-800-273-TALK (8255), Press 1
    A 24/7 phone service that connects Veterans in crisis and their families and friends with VA responders
  • Trevor Lifeline: 1-866-488-7386
    A 24/7 crisis intervention and suicide prevention phone service for LGBTQ youth (ages 13-24) operated by The Trevor Project

  • National Domestic Violence Hotline: 1-800-799-SAFE (7233), or TTY Hotline: 1-800-787-3224
    Offers 24/7 anonymous access to shelters and domestic violence programs as well as legal advocacy, public education, and training

  • National Sexual Assault Hotline: 1-800-656-HOPE (4673)
    A 24/7 hotline operated by RAINN (Rape, Abuse & Incest National Network) to link victims to counseling and legal advice

  • Disaster Distress Helpline: 1-800-985-5990
